A successful SEO strategy requires robust keyword research

I haven't had a lot of time to write in the last week as I've been busy preparing my second SEO workshop for one of my clients, the Nature Conservation Trust, as well as getting closer and closer to launching the new WWF-Australia website. It's all coming along nicely thanks to the ability to use Google Insights for keyword research - if you haven't heard of Google Insights or used it, try it today.

Google Insights allows you to sift through your list of important keywords that you have selected as important to your website, product...

Google +1 button taking on Facebook’s LIKE

Search engine land has been doing the research for us and found, deep in Google's FAQs, a mention of how the new Google +1 social media short code button (the html code that allows you to add the button to your webpages) may help get your website crawled more often, hence could improve your search ranking.

Anything that helps your SEO is good news, especially considering with all Google's innovation; instant search (where Google suggests search keywords as you're typing), local search 7 pack (maps with pins for local search results) and universal search (images and...

Community sourcing versus crowd sourcing

I've been advocating for an organisational blog at WWF for almost 2 years now and I will continue to push for it as it will definitely help us reach our global goal of "mobilising millions", but I'm not currently writing, in charge of, contributing or planning a business blog. BUT I have found some very good articles online about this very topic and I found them very helpful in my own thinking while I get ready to start planning a business blog. A blog is an integral part...

Content is King – as every good digital person knows

As every good digital or online person knows, your marketing campaign is only as good as the landing page you send people to. So when I started in a new role and had to build a digital strategy, online marketing and communications plan and build a new website, I took a deep breath and started with the website content.

Website content has now been one of the primary focuses of my professional life for the past 20 months. When I started...

SEO Workshop today for Nature Conservation Trust

I'm conducting my first SEO workshop for the Nature Conservation Trust today. I'm excited about moving forward with their approved digital strategy and website content upgrade.

I will first give the group an education in Google Analytics and show them "what the data says". I will do a short presentation about what SEO is and that its not just about the meta data on your page and a few keywords in the copy.

Later in today we're going to workshop who NCT's desired audience is and what the role of...
